At a moment of reflection, Perky remembered a family holiday to Toronto. Some lovely memories of the city ensued. They included the towering CN Tower dominating the skyline, the vibrant colours of Kensington Market, and the excitement of visiting the Royal Ontario Museum. The bustling streets of Yonge-Dundas Square and the tranquillity of High Park were also recalled.
The memories of this holiday prompted Perky to consider a return visit to Canada, but first to research more about this vast country, second only to Russia in its sheer size.
From the majestic Rocky Mountains in the west to the stunning Niagara Falls in the east, Canada boasts a plethora of natural wonders. National parks like Banff and Jasper can be explored and the Canadian Rockies can be marvelled at.
Canada’s cities are vibrant and diverse, with Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver being known for their cultural offerings. These include museums, galleries, theatres, and international cuisine.
Activities such as skiing and snowboarding in Whistler, hiking in the Canadian Rockies, kayaking in the Gulf Islands, or whale watching off the coast of Newfoundland, can be experienced and enjoyed. Canada also has a rich cultural heritage shaped by Indigenous peoples, French and British colonial influences, and waves of immigration from around the world.
In the northern regions of Canada, such as Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, there is a chance to witness the mesmerising spectacle of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). Also available in this vast and beautiful country is a wide range of adventure tourism experiences, including dog sledding in the Yukon, white-water rafting in British Columbia, or zip-lining in Quebec.
Canadian cuisine reflects the country’s multicultural population and diverse culinary traditions. Regional specialties can be sampled, such as poutine in Quebec, seafood in the Maritime provinces, or maple syrup treats in Ontario and Quebec.
Perky’s memories of the past visit to Toronto only scratched the surface of what this remarkable country has to offer. Canada beckons as a destination not just for another holiday, but for an immersive journey into its awe-inspiring attractions and diversity.
